WESTport manufactures Special Nut Taps in both left-hand and right-hand configurations for high-production nut manufacturing and other applications requiring long thread engagement. Originally developed specifically for tapping nuts, these taps feature a long chamfer that gradually enters the drilled hole and distributes the cutting load over multiple teeth. This progressive cutting action reduces cutting forces, improves thread quality, and helps extend tool life during continuous production.

Unlike standard machine taps, Nut Taps are engineered with a long thread length, a reduced-diameter shank, and an extended square drive. The reduced shank allows multiple finished nuts to accumulate on the tap after threading without interference, making these tools especially effective in automated and semi-automated production environments. The extended square provides secure driving engagement while improving durability during repetitive manufacturing operations.

Every WESTport Special Nut Tap is custom manufactured to customer specifications using premium High-Speed Steel (HSS), cobalt, powdered metal, or carbide, depending on the application and workpiece material.
