Product Details

Diamond spot anvils present a small, hard, diamond-shaped contact area recommended for supporting thin, soft sheet-type product without deflection during the test.

The slightly raised, flat, polished diamond surface prevents the damage and influence — the "anvil effect" — that a standard steel anvil can impose on a thin, soft specimen, and it standardizes the frictional effect between anvil and sheet as the sample deforms under load. A typical unit has a polished diamond surface roughly 1/2 in in diameter by 1/16 in tall on a 3/4 in shank.

Important: the diamond spot anvil is used only with the 15T or 30T superficial Rockwell scales and only with a ball indenter. Never use a diamond indenter with a diamond spot anvil — breakage of both the indenter and the anvil can result. (This is the anvil used for thin tin-mill sheet products, where steel balls may substitute for tungsten carbide on the 15T and 30T scales.)
