Thread Measuring Wires

Thread Measuring Wires together with a micrometer are used to quickly & accurately measure pitch diameters of external threads. Thread measuring wire are perfect for calibrating and checking for wear on thread plug gages and are used to monitor and control pitch diameters manufactured threads. WESTport offers a complete range of certified thread measuring wires for unified, metric, acme, and specials.

Complete library sets are available in inch, metric and acme sizes. All wires sets are supplied within .000020” of the best wire size. All wires are calibrated within .000050” of the size provided on the label. Commonality of the 3 wires is with .0000050” and roundness within .000010”. Taper does not exceed .000010”.

They come in two inch lengths and are surface finish lapped, 1 MU AA. Each thread measuring wire has a minimum hardness of RC 62.5. Meet or exceed ANSI/ASME B1.2 and ANSI/ASME B1.16M. for Grade A Master thread wires. The roundness is assured by 100% inspection in a specially designed optically-lapped precision vee-block having the same angle as the thread to be measured.

All WESTport measuring wires also meet former Federal Specifications GGG-W-366b, which for identity of size, taper and roundness requires a tolerance of .00001" for Grade A Wires. Thread measuring wires come in a set of three packaged in a clear, screw top vial.
